My Mum the Pilot

In honour of International Women’s Day, I’m reposting a blog post I wrote a few years ago which was featured on WordPress Discover.

My mum was told as a child that women shouldn’t fly planes but she had always wanted to learn.

She won a flying scholarship, took flying lessons before college classes started and became a pilot in India at the age of 21 in 1961.

Even today, less than 5% of airline pilots are women so I’m reposting it here in honour of the fly girls of the world, the women with wings, the aviatrixes of the world, those brave women who refused to give up and just flew.
